Interconnection
Providing Business Opportunities in Today's Interconnected World
The Place Where Networks Meet
The former Equinix, now Equinix has provided an efficient place for networks to meet since the beginning of the commercial Internet. Our carrier neutral sites are the most densely interconnected data centers around the world. Our customers have provisioned more than three times more cross connects per cabinet than other national network neutral providers.

With access to about 1,000 customers and over 400 distinct networks across our footprint, Equinix makes it easy for you to interconnect with the business partners and carriers of your choice.
From direct interconnection solutions and Metro Cross Connects, to our SingleCNXT-i service that allows you to access to multiple providers with the convenience of a single interface, we'll implement the solution that best meets your needs.
Equinix's interconnection solutions help you:
- Manage Growth - Quickly and easily manage bandwidth growth through our cross connects available in various media types.
- Improve Performance and Reliability - Minimize network failure by eliminating the most common point of failure - local loops.
- Increase Options - Maximize network performance with access to scalable bandwidth from multiple providers.
- Reduce Expenses - Cost-effectively access multiple bandwidth providers in order to reduce your reliance on costly local loops.
Cross Connects
The following cross connect services are available at every Equinix colocation facility:
- DS0
- DS1
- DS3
- Fiber Pair
- Ethernet
Extended Cross Connects
Extended cross connects multiply your interconnection choices at our sites in North America's leading carrier hotel buildings.
- An interconnection from a customer located in a Equinix suite to a service provider located the building or a third-party Meet Me Room (MMR) in a carrier hotel.
- An Extended cross connect runs from our customer's colocation space in our suite to the Equinix equipment in the building or third-party MMR.
- The demarcation point of the Extended cross connect ends at our panel in the building/third-party MMR.
Metro Cross Connects
Metro cross connects multiply your interconnection choices across multiple Equinix sites in the same city or metro area.
- A cross connect from one customer in a Equinix suite at one physical location to another customer located at a different physical address in the market.
- Multiple sites in a market appear as a one big virtual site. This gives our customers increased connectivity options and reduces operating costs by eliminating the need for multiple deployments in the same markets.
Patch Panels/Meet Me Room
Every Equinix colocation facility is designed with a Meet Me Room (MMR). Customers who wish to connect to other customers within the facility do so via the cross connect panels in the MMR where all customer-to-customer/carrier interconnection occurs. The benefits of this architecture include:
- Reliability from secure cable infrastructure
- Fast and simple provisioning from a centrally managed asset inventory
- Flexibility and scalability from a common infrastructure and architecture
Network providers place a patch panel in our MMRs to make it easy for other customers to purchase their services.
Simple Bandwidth: SingleCNXT-i
Connectivity to multiple bandwidth providers can be a sound strategy for cutting network costs, increasing uptime, and improving stability. But the challenges of managing multiple Internet providers can take its toll - minimum bandwidth requirements, time-consuming quotes, multiple bills.
Equinix's SingleCNXT-i gives you simple access to multiple network service from a single interface. SingleCNXT-i can help establish or expand your network reach and enhance network capacity and performance.
